12 Sex Games for Couples to Play Tonight: Rules Included, No Props Needed

Most lists of sex games for couples are either a shopping list (buy these dice, print these cards) or a single line per game that leaves you making up the rules on the spot. This is neither. Every game below comes from the idea library in our own app, where couples have been swiping on them for years, and each one is written out the way you would explain it to your partner: what you need, how it goes, and the one rule that makes it work.

They are sorted by heat, from games you could play on a first weekend away to games that assume you already know each other well. Nothing needs props beyond what is in your kitchen drawer, and a phone timer covers the rest. Pick a level together first (there is a short section on how at the end), then pick a game.

Level 1: Sweet, Slow, Fully Clothed

These are about attention, not sex. They are the right opener for a couple who has not played anything in a while, and a good way to find out whether tonight wants to go further at all.

1. Back spelling

Setup: one of you lies face down, clothes on. The other sits beside them.

How it goes: with one fingertip, slowly draw a letter on their back. They guess it. Then a word. Then a short sentence, one letter at a time, no rushing.

The rule: the sentences have to be about them. Start innocent ("you smell good") and let each one get a little more specific about what you want to do later. The guessing is the point: they have to concentrate on your touch to read it.

2. The body inventory

Setup: sitting facing each other, lights on.

How it goes: take turns naming one thing you find attractive about your partner's body. Five each, alternating.

The rule: specifics only. "You're beautiful" is a forfeit. "The line where your neck meets your shoulder when you tie your hair up" counts. If someone forfeits, they owe an extra one. It is harder than it sounds and most couples get quiet and a bit flushed by round three.

3. The blindfold tour

Setup: a scarf or a sleep mask. That is the only prop on this page.

How it goes: one of you is blindfolded. The other leads them slowly around the room by the hand, placing their palm on different surfaces: the cold window, the wool blanket, a candle's warmth, the inside of their own wrist, ending on their own face.

The rule: the blindfolded partner says one word for each surface, and nothing else. Swap roles. The game is over when the second tour ends, whatever you both feel like doing at that point.

Level 2: Warm, Playful, Clothes Optional

Now there is touching and the games have stakes, but they still work if one of you is tired or the mood is more affectionate than hungry.

4. The kiss prompt jar

Setup: twenty slips of paper, a pen, any jar or mug.

How it goes: each of you writes ten prompts that fit on a slip: a place and a kind of touch. "Kiss the back of my knee." "Lick the inside of my elbow." "Bite my lower lip, gently." Fold them, mix them.

The rule: you draw five each, alternating, and you do exactly what the slip says and nothing more, for as long as the other person wants. The restraint is the game. The leftover ten slips stay in the jar for next time, which is why people keep this one going for months.

5. Three minutes, then stop

Setup: a phone timer set to three minutes.

How it goes: you have sex for exactly three minutes. When the timer goes, you stop, fully, and get up. Make tea. Watch something. Nothing for at least an hour.

The rule: no negotiating when the alarm goes. The first time, most couples laugh at how unreasonable it feels. The second round, an hour later, has no timer, and everything that got interrupted is still there. This is the simplest anticipation game we know and it needs nothing.

6. One fantasy a night

Setup: five nights in a row, at bedtime, lights off.

How it goes: each night, one of you tells one fantasy, in detail, and the other listens without commenting. You alternate who tells. On the sixth night, you pick one of the five together and do it, or the closest version of it you both want.

The rule: no reactions while someone is telling. A laugh, a "really?", even a surprised "oh" ends the game for the night. Silence is what makes people say the true one instead of the safe one. If saying a fantasy out loud at all is the wall, there is a way to share fantasies without saying them that many couples use as a warm-up to this game.

Level 3: Hot, With Rules That Bite

These assume you both want sex tonight and are playing for how, not whether. The rules create pressure on purpose. Agree on a stop word before you start, and mean it.

7. Winner takes all

Setup: an afternoon of anything competitive with a proper score: bowling, mini golf, darts, a board game you are both decent at.

How it goes: keep score honestly. The winner names one thing they want done to them, or one thing they want to do, and the loser delivers it the moment you are home.

The rule: the prize is named out loud before the game starts, by both of you, so each of you is playing to win something you already agreed to. That is what keeps it fun for the loser. A prize named after the score is a demand, not a game.

8. The 5-4-3-2-1 marathon

Setup: five weeknights and a timer.

How it goes: Monday, five minutes of foreplay before sleep, then stop. Tuesday, four minutes. Wednesday, three. Thursday, two. Friday, thirty seconds. Saturday, no timer at all.

The rule: the timer is absolute and nobody finishes before Saturday. It is a week-long version of game five and the shrinking window does something to both of you by Thursday. Couples who are out of sync on desire tell us this one resets it better than any conversation.

9. The dress-code dinner

Setup: a restaurant booking, dressed up.

How it goes: neither of you wears underwear. Nobody mentions it once you leave the house. You have a normal dinner.

The rule: eye contact stays locked across the table all evening, and anyone who looks away first for more than a beat owes the other a favour of their choosing when you get home. The secret shared in public is the whole game; the dinner will be the longest either of you has sat through.

Level 4: Explicit, For Couples Who Already Trust Each Other

These involve control, denial or restraint. They are wonderful for couples who have talked about that already and a bad idea as a surprise. If you have not had that conversation, level 3 has plenty, or start with the private way of finding out described at the end.

10. The thirty-minute vault

Setup: a timer, thirty minutes, the door locked.

How it goes: for thirty minutes you can do anything to each other that you both want in the moment, and when the timer ends, that is it.

The rule: it is never mentioned again. Not the next morning, not as a joke, not as a reference. The vault only works because it is sealed, and that seal is what lets people try something they would never propose in daylight. Your stop word still works inside the vault, always.

11. Odds and evens

Setup: a blindfold, something soft to tie wrists with, and earplugs or headphones with white noise.

How it goes: play odds and evens with your fingers, once. The loser is blindfolded, wrists restrained, hearing muffled, and the winner has them for as long as the winner decides.

The rule: the loser agrees to all three (sight, hands, sound) before the coin toss, or it is one of the three, their choice, and the game is just as good. Taking away senses one at a time is a game in itself, and it is the gentlest way into restraint for a couple who has never tried it.

12. The countdown

Setup: one of you on the bed, the other in a chair across the room.

How it goes: the one in the chair counts down out loud from a number you agree on (a hundred is plenty, some couples go to a thousand). The one on the bed has to come before the count reaches zero, on their own, while being watched.

The rule: the counter does not touch, does not stop counting, and does not speed up. What happens if the count reaches zero is agreed before it starts, and it should be something the person on the bed actually wants. Being watched and timed is the game; the "punishment" is a second chance.

How to Agree on a Level Without Killing the Mood

The reason most couples never play any of this is not the games. It is that someone has to go first and say "I'd be into number nine", and the other has to answer on the spot. Three things make that easier:

  • Set the ceiling before, not during. The shyer partner picks the highest level for the night, and that is final. The other partner picks any game at or under it. Nobody negotiates upward mid-game.
  • One word ends any game, no explanation owed. Pick it now. It is not a mood killer; it is the reason the game can have teeth at all.
  • Answer privately first. Each of you reads this list alone and marks the numbers you would play. Then compare only the overlap. A yes/no/maybe list is this idea in a form you can fill in from your browser, and it is free.

If You Want the Game to Run Itself

That third step, answering privately and revealing only the overlap, is exactly what Couplet, our sex app for couples, does with a library of 500+ ideas: every game on this page is in there, alongside positions, fantasies and quieter things. You each swipe on your own phone, only mutual yeses appear, and a no is never shown to anyone. Every week you get a fresh set at the spice level you both chose, so the "which game tonight" question answers itself. The core loop is free for both partners. If you would rather compare it with dice and dare apps first, our sex game apps for couples comparison does that.

Play the twelve games above with nobody going first. Free for both partners, no subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some sex games to play with your partner at home?

Anything on this page. If you want one to start with tonight, play the kiss prompt jar (game 4): it takes ten minutes to set up, needs paper and a pen, and leaves you with ten unused slips for next time.

How do we agree on how far a game goes?

Level first, game second, and the shyer partner sets the level. Agree a stop word. If saying it out loud is the hard part, each mark your numbers privately and compare only the overlap.

What sex games can couples play without cards or dice?

Eleven of the twelve here. Timer games, rule games, guessing games and wager games all run on the two of you and a phone clock. The blindfold tour is the only one with a prop, and a scarf covers it.

Is there an app with sex games for couples?

Yes. Couplet has all of these and hundreds more, and its whole mechanic is the private-answer-then-overlap step described above. For dare and dice apps, see the comparison of sex game apps.

🎲 The best sex game is not the one with the most dares. It is the one where you both already know the other wanted to play.
